Community Education
Courses to Enhance Skills
The Center for Community Innovation is located in an 8,000 square foot, two story building owned by the City of Raton. The North Eastern NM Educational Foundation, Eastern NM University (ENMU), and Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) have already begun offering courses leading to two and four year degrees utilizing long distance learning technology. Local community education courses are also offered. Because of its affiliations with these state colleges, The Center can provide customized workforce development training for employers.
Raton Public Schools
Unleashing Potential
Raton Public Schools offer a variety of programs to help students fulfill their potential. We offer a comprehensive Pre K -12 program. All students in elementary school get Music, P.E. and Art each week. We have held the line on these programs during these tough economic times. Project based learning is now being introduced as early as the 3rd grade. As students mature, the offerings become more numerous. At Raton High School students can choose one of two tracks: a college prep track or a vocational track.
We are very proud of our Healthcare Career Pathways program for 11th and 12th grade students. This program is the result of a collaborative effort with Santa Fe Community College, Colfax County, and Miners’ Colfax Medical Center. Through this program our students can earn up to 18 credit hours of college credit prior to graduating high school. Students also have the ability to sit for the Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) examination. There are now a total of 6 dual-credit programs designed to provide students the opportunity to pursue college level course credits while still in high school. Our culinary arts, welding and woodshop programs are also excellent. In addition to these programs, we have great music and art programs and a growing theater program. We have very strong clubs and organizations in both our high school and our middle school.
